Last month, Scenic Rim Guide experienced an exclusive selection of wine at Canungra Valley Vineyards.

It’s the start of Spring.  Alpacas are basking in the sun, grazing creekside on the green.  Overlooking the vines, is an open marquee.  It provided a relaxed setting for the wine launch at Canungra Valley Vineyards.

Each wine was served and paired with culinary delights, starting with Groom Pinot Gris and poached salmon.  Sharing an insight behind each wine was Mike Hayes.  Hayes is well known and respected in the industry, recently awarded the ASVO Winemaker of the Year for 2017.

This exclusive wine launch provided a perfect opportunity to learn more about local wine in the Scenic Rim.  You too can join in the celebration this Spring with the Reserve Selection Launch Special.

Groom Pinot Gris 2019

Delicate whiffs of nashi fruit and white peach tease the senses with a hint of baby pear juice aromas evident.  The palate is alive, fresh and zingy with soft stone fruit flavours wrapped in a rich vibrant finish of lip-smacking orchard fruit.

Mick Nebbiolo 2018

Sophistication oozing throughout the aroma profile with rose petal and boysenberry notes prominent.  Soft juicy warm flavour of raspberry and blackberry are well supported with an equal mix of tannin and acid flowing through the mid-palate.

Norbert Sangiovese 2019

Medium colour, garnet, with cherry red hue. Aroma of violet underscored with vanilla from French oak.  Flavour, although youthful, is very soft with light tannins indicating that he wine is attractive now.

Bernard Chambourcin 2019

Chambourcin grapes grown on the O’Reilly’s Vineyard Estate, hand harvested by dedicated members, displays the hallmarks of deep midnight violet hues and bouquet of blackberries and liquorice.  Medium bodied palate has flowing silky tannins complementing flavours of ripe dark fruits and gamey meats, a gorgeous example of alternative variety Queensland wine.

Following the launch, with picnic basket in hand, we took shelter under a shaded tree creekside, where turtle’s often play.  The Homestead Picnic Basket for two featured a delicious selection of cold meats and salads.  Southern-fried Chicken, antipasto vegetables, cheese, dips and crackers.  It was an ideal way to unwind and enjoy the great outdoors taking in fresh air of the Canungra Valley.
